Osteopathy is a primary healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system.
It is based on the principle that the wellbeing of an individual depends on all structural components, such as joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves, functioning smoothly together. Osteopaths assess and treat your body as a whole, addressing multiple dysfunctions that may be hindering your recovery and sporting performance.
It is a principle that fits in well with our core philosophy at Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic – our range of in-house services complement each other and enable a truly holistic service.
Osteopathic treatment is mostly ‘hands-on’ and involves mobilising and manipulating joints, massaging and stretching soft tissues and restoring blood flow and nerve function to the affected area. Osteopaths will also often provide you with postural advice as well as stretching or exercise routines to do at home. Osteopathy has proven effectiveness in the treatment and pain relief of many conditions including low back pain, frozen shoulder, neck pain and headaches, disc problems and nerve pain, and other joint pain.
Our osteopath Natalie has treated many patients with varying presentations and is particularly interested in treating problems arising from poor posture, muscle imbalance and repetitive strain, as well as chronic pain syndromes and the symptoms of arthritis. She enjoys treating people of many different backgrounds, ranging from children to seniors and from desk workers to athletes.
Having worked as a ski and snowboard instructor, Natalie understands the relationship between injury, rehabilitation and performance. She has successfully treated several athletes, both amateur and professional, including golfers, wrestlers, runners and footballers.
At Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic we have one of the largest independent teams of specialists in many areas of musculoskeletal medicine. All patients will be appropriately advised of which discipline is more suitable for their problem.
