Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic team up with Northumberland FA to support Blackout Weekend

Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic will be touring the region on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February to support the Blackout Weekend hosted by Northumberland Football Association (FA).

As part of the partnership, launched in November last year, between Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic and Northumberland FA, the clinic are committed to providing injury prevention, treatment and education services to all affiliates of Northumberland FA.

Over the course of the Blackout Weekend, Clinic Director, Karen Dearden will be delivering workshops relating to injury prevention and treatment in youth players.

When talking about the workshops, Karen said, “With between 10 and 35 injuries occurring in every 1000 hours of playing football, the importance of getting fast and effective injury treatment has never been higher.  Many players are advised to ‘run off’ their injuries, however, this technique has been known to cause more harm than good.  We have tailormade this workshop to help Northumberland Football Association players, coaches, referees and supporting staff show injuries the red card.”

The workshop provided by Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic will be bespoke and interactive to the attendees and will cover topics such as, injury prevention for footballers and support staff, common injuries in youth players and how injury treatments for children and adolescents differ to those for adults.

The Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic Blackout Weekend workshops are taking place across the region.  Clubs affiliated with Northumberland FA can sign up for the roadshows on the Northumberland FA website.

In addition to the workshops, Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic also provide access to an injury-advice hotline where therapists offer free injury advice to those who have signed up to the injury prevention scheme.  Affiliated members are also able to access physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, bespoke rehabilitation, biomechanical analysis, and podiatry treatments along with other many other services, including access to a sports consultant, nutritionist and orthopaedic surgeons and can offer fast-track x-rays, ultrasound and MRI scans.

Karen Dearden, NSIC Director said: “We hope that by providing these services through the partnership, which will be facilitated at our three clinics based in Newcastle, Jesmond and Alnwick, and by providing workshops on topics of interest to the members, we can reduce the number of injuries sustained by football players in Northumberland and the support teams around them.”

The CEO of Northumberland FA, John Ackerley, talking about the partnership said: “Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic is endorsing in-kind services worth nearly £50,000 to help as many of our football players, coaches and supporting staff as they can. The benefits on offer for the footballing population of Northumberland through this partnership will have a positive impact on the reduction in injuries and in turn, reduce the number of drop outs we currently face in our region.  I would encourage every club affiliated with Northumberland FA to attend the Blackout Weekend workshops and sign up to the scheme offered by Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic.”

To utilise the services available through this partnership, clubs will need to register for the Injury Advice Scheme by contacting info@newcastlesportsinjury.co.uk.
